Reviving Our Confidence in God
David’s confidence was based upon the care
God had provided for him in the past. “When the
wicked came against me To eat up my flesh, My
enemies and foes, They stumbled and fell” (Psa.
27:2). As a shepherd, David had experienced the at-
tack of lions that would certainly eat up one’s flesh.
However, often the attack of enemies is likened to that
of ferocious animals. David’s enemies could not suc-
ceed. It was they who stumbled and fell. David under-
stood that his salvation was not due to his own
strength or skill as a warrior but to the protection of
God! David was unafraid. It mattered not whether it
was a host that encamped against him to make war
against him, he would remain confident “Though an
army may encamp against me, My heart shall not
fear; Though war should rise against me, In this I
will be confident” (Psa. 27:3).
This same confidence can be had by the child
of God today. Paul told his young friend Timothy, “For
this reason I also suffer these things; nevertheless
I am not ashamed, for I know whom I have be-
lieved and am persuaded that He is able to keep
what I have committed to Him until that Day” (II
Tim. 1:12, NKJV). In the NASB the latter part of this
verse is rendered “I am convinced that He is able to
guard what I have entrusted to Him until that
day” (II Tim. 1:12).
David’s confidence in God was due in part to
the fact that he had his heart centered on one thing,
and that is vitally important. ““One thing I have de-
sired of the LORD, That will I seek: That I may
dwell in the house of the LORD All the days of my
life, To behold the beauty of the LORD, And to in-
quire in His temple” (Psa. 27:4, NKJV). Some times
we can become so scattered in our desires that we
are never able to accomplish anything. Sometimes we
may hear of some person the expression, “he is jack
of all trades and a master of none.” Such a person
may know a little about many things but he has never
centered on one thing to really become a master of it.
If we are not careful we may never center ourselves
on spiritual things to have ourselves become proficient
in that which really matters. In the Old Testament we
read of a man who was given one responsibility but
because he became intrigued with other things he
failed in that one responsibility and paid the penalty for
it. “And as the king passed by, he cried unto the
king: and he said, Thy servant went out into the
midst of the battle; and, behold, a man turned
aside, and brought a man unto me, and said, Keep
this man: if by any means he be missing, then
shall thy life be for his life, or else thou shalt pay a
talent of silver 40 And as thy servant was busy
here and there, he was gone. And the king of Is-
rael said unto him, So shall thy judgment be; thy-
self hast decided it” (1Kings 20:39, 40).
Thank you everyone for your cards and
prayers. Prayer worked! Doctors say I
am cancer free as of now. I will start
prevention chemo in a week or so.
