However, it would seem that “I” wants more than “them,” “they,” or “those. “I” seems to never be ful- filled, though it is so small. “I” alone is sad and lost, yet “I” can be all one thinks about. There must be a balance because without “I,” no one can STR“I”VE, G“I”VE, or THR“I”VE. “I” is here for a reason, a great purpose. “I” can str“I”ve To be a g“I”ft for others in their time of need, which is more fulfilling than anything “I” could find within itself. You see, “I” is an extremely short word to describe L“I”FE. One day “I” will be gone. There is no “I” in death. “I” will no longer stand vertically, but will lay horizontally (like this “–”) in the casket. “I” has changed to a “–.” I will be placed on the tombstone and say what “I” did in L“I”FE (e.g. 1985 “–” 2019?) John 1:14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth. The Word took on the smallest subject pronoun: “I.” He lived on this earth to d“I”e. He took our “I” and our “–” and made a , taking it on Himself. “And ‘I’, if ‘I’ am lifted up from the earth, will draw all peoples (all ‘I’s) to Myself.” This He said, signifying by what death He would die” (Jn 12:32,33). If you are reading this, your “I” is still here (remember it could be gone in a blink of an “I”). What are you going to do with it? Will you help others by putting God first? Take care of more than just “I” to “–” “Then He said to them all, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny him- self (“I” to “–”), and take up his daily, and follow Me (Luke 9:23). -A Note From the Harp

Thus death is referred to as “the king of terrors.” To Bildad there was nothing so terrifying as death! In writing to the church at Corinth Paul declared that “The sting of death is sin, and the strength of sin is the law” (I Cor. 15:56). Death is the result of sin. It is because of the sin of one man (Adam) that brought death into the world (Rom. 5:12). The sting of death is sin! This is so because sin produces not only physical death but also the second death – eternal condemnation. Sin separates us from God. Long ago Isaiah wrote, “Behold, the LORD'S hand is not shortened, That it cannot save; Nor His ear heavy, That it cannot hear. 2 But your iniquities have separated you from your God; And your sins have hidden His face from you, So that He will not hear” (Isa. 59:1, 2). If that sin is not forgiven then that separation that sin produces will be eternal. In the day of judgment, Jesus will say to those who failed to obey Him, “Depart from Me, you cursed, into the everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels” (Mt. 25:41b). The power of death is the law. This is so be- cause the law points out our sin and condemns us to death, but the law could not enable us to overcome sin. It is like a doctor who can diagnose cancer, but who is powerless to remove the disease. So the law diagnosed the sin, and condemned us for it, but the law could not remove the sin. The Law of Moses required animal sacri- fices but those sins were remembered every year at which time more sacrifices would have to be made. The writer of the letter to the Hebrews said, “For the law, having a shadow of the good things to come, and not the very image of the things, can never with these same sacrifices, which they offer continually year by year, make those who approach perfect. 2 For then would they not have ceased to be offered? For the worshipers, once purified, would have had no more consciousness of sins. 3 But in those sacrifices there is a reminder of sins every year. 4 For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and goats could take away sins” (Heb. 10:1-4). Thus the statement of Paul in I Cor. 15:56 is terrifying to men. However, verse fifty-six is not the end of Paul’s statement about death and sin. Paul concludes his statement with the words, “but thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ” (I Cor. 15:57). This is one of the reasons we should be thankful that we are not under the law (the Old Covenant), but grace. Under the new law, God’s plan of redemption is completed. Jesus went to the cross in our place and provided for us that which neither the old law nor we could provide – the perfect sacrifice that can and does take away our sins.
