Today, as many are beginning their resolutions for the New Year, this article finds its purpose. Next week, January 8th , is Resolution Sunday. The elders have requested this day to be on our calendar, and I applaud their wisdom and insight for its focus. One might suppose this could have been called “Every Member Present Day” or “Unity Day.” Unity and attendance are always understood in their importance. We are unified by the blood of Christ. “But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ. For He Himself is our peace, who has made us both one and has broken down in his flesh the dividing wall of hostility” (Ephesians 2:13–14) Those walls being broken down make it possible for every member to be brought near. To be completely present and cleansed from a guilty past completely. These truths being understood, are often left to grow cold and lose their luster within our mind’s eye. Resolution Sunday is a day to affirm our commitment to the Lord. A day in the beginning of the year to commit to a steadfastness in Faith. A private inner pledge to be immovable in seeking God’s Will in 2023. You will notice that “His Will” is the theme for 2023. Today for the sermon, we will focus on our theme verse: “Therefore, do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is” (Ephesians 5:17). This is a tall order to seek and understand the will of God. If we could understand everything, if we could know every aspect of an event in question, there would be no more room for the question within our mind. The answer would be left in its place. At the conclusion of this year, we will still have questions. We will still wonder and seek God’s will in every situation. But this passage shows us that we CAN UNDERSTAND the will of the Lord. What God wants us to know is like an open book test. What is readily available to each and every one of us is that He wants us to know His divine will. This is what we are going to delve into in 2023. This is exciting! This is literally life-changing for the better, regardless of what is happening in our lives. I ask you, what will this time next year look like if you commit now to daily seek God’s will? Come next week having prayed about this. Have your heart ready to seek God in your Christian duty. This is also a day to affirm our commitment to each other. To be committed to encourage each other and serve this community alongside one another. Let’s strive to seek God’s will together in 2023. Our families, our congregation and our community will be transformed more than ever this year. God be praised. Please pray for January 8th and the blessings that will grow from it.
