D., Rm 583W Tim Shoemaker ATTENDANCE FOR MAY 27, 2018 AM 409 PM 189 Upcoming Events for the Youth VBS June 3-6 Boys & Girls Retreat June 8 Youth Campaign June 22-29 A World Turned Upside Down – Part 4 The church refused to accept the view that the gospel was only another religious message among many religious messages. Men must know and obey the truth! Jesus taught people to, “Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: 14 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it” (Mt. 7:13, 14). Men need to understand that there are two inviters – Christ and Satan. There are two gates – the narrow and the wide, and there are two ways – the strait and the broad. Likewise all need to also understand that there are only two destinies – life and destruc- tion, and two classes of men – the few and the many. Just a few verses later Jesus declared, “Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven” (Mt. 7:21). Just being religious is not enough. Jesus did not come to make men religious, He came to make us right religiously! To be right religiously we must do the will of God. Jesus then ends His sermon with the story of two builders that represent what will happen to the class of people who hear and obey Jesus and the other group that hear but do not obey Jesus. These are the wise and the foolish builders. “Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: 25 "and the rain de- scended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock. 26 "But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand: 27 "and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. And great was its fall."(Mt. 7:24-27). Preaching anything other than the truth leads to destruction as Paul told the Galatian brethren (Gal. 1:6-8). Convinced that men were lost and that only the gospel could save them, they preached the gos- pel everywhere. They preached to the Jewish doc- tors of the law and challenged them to refute it (Acts 2, 3). They preached the gospel to the Sa- maritans, the half-way house, and challenged them to refute it (Acts 8). They preached Christ to the Gentiles and challenged them to refute it (Acts 10, 11). They went into the midst of the Greek philoso- phers and preached Christ and challenged them to refute it (Acts 17). They preached the gospel of Christ to every creature under heaven (Col. 1:23).
