• Program designed to run
other programs
• Main Roles :
IO management
Processor management
File management
Memory management

4. Introduction

(i)Google:
Google began in January 1996 as a research project by Larry Page and
Sergey Brin when they were both PhD students at Stanford University in
california. Now It’s a Most Used search Engine in globe.
(ii)Google Chrome:
“Google Chrome” is a web browser developed by Google that is the
most light weight & fastest too.
5. Contniued…
(iii) Google chrome Os:
• ‘Google Chrome OS’ is an open source web operating system designed
by Google to work exclusively with web applications .
• The operating system is based on Linux and will run only on specifically
designed hardware.
• Designed to work exclusively with web applications. Aimed at users who
spend most of their time on the Internet.
• Google Chrome OS is an open source, lightweight operating system that
will initially be targeted at net-books. Speed, simplicity and security are
the key aspects.
• Rely heavily on cloud-based applications.
• It Runs on both x86 ,x64& ARM Chips & Chrome browser is specially
redesigned by adopting security architecture so that user don’t have
to deal with Viruses, Malwares & security Updates.
5
6. Chrome OS : Closer Look
• Open Source
• Browser based OS
• Created specially for
computers of new age
• More speed….. More Simple..
And more secure..
6
7. Simplicity
• Just a browser with tabs
• Requires Google ID to log in
• Customizable as per users requirement
7
8. History
8
Google developers began coding the operating system in 2009.Inspired by the
growing popularity and lower power consumption of net-books and the focus
of these small laptops on Internet access. For developing new OS they
monitored the usage patterns of some 200 Chrome OS machines used by Google
employees.
On November 19, 2009, Google released Chrome OS's source code as the
“Chromium OS project”.Google demonstrated an early version of the operating
system.
In March 2010, Google indicated that they are developing two versions of the
operating system, a consumer version and an enterprise version.
In December 2010 Google showed off a development Google Chrome OS
laptop
9. Chrome OS Configuration
• Company /developer Google Inc.
• Programmed in C, C++
• OS family Linux-like
• Working state latest By Android (Mobile OS)
• Supported platforms x86,x64 ARM processors
• Kernel type (Linux)
• Default user interface Graphical interface based on the Google Chrome Browser
• Available on System Net-Books(Earlier Version),ChromeBook & Chrome Boxes.
Designed by Samsung & Acer
• ,License BSD license (for Chrome OS)
• Officialwebsite google.com/chromeos/

10. Software Architecture
10
Chrome OS consists of three major components:-
The Chromium-based browser and the window manager.
System-level software and user-land services: the kernel, drivers,
connection manager, and so on .
Firmware.
13. Services &Features
(i) Services
• The Web application menu
• Integrated Media Player
• Cloud print Service
• No OS update alerts
• Web based applications
automatically work with OS
• Run multiple web applications
in multiple tabs
• Cross API.
• Security.
(ii) Features
• Fast & Light weight.
• Speedy bootup
• Supports Microsoft Office
• Security built in
• Forever fresh
• Amazing web apps
• V8 JavaScript engine is used
to increase browser speed.
13
14. Compatibles Hardwares
Companies like developing hardwre for the operating system include
Acer , Hp, Tosibha, Intel ,Samsung, & Dell are asociatives for
hardware support currently.
In July 2010 Many Companies like Hp, Dell are refused the Working
proposal for Chrome OS.
In April 2010 when google got some tie-ups & Merging with some
associates it confirmed that Google will supply the operating System
for free but it will be up to hardware manufacturers and retailers to set
their own prices for the devices.
14
15. System Boot
Chrome OS boot Process is much faster than any other OS. Since
chromebook are specially designed for chrome OS so firware doesnot
have to search components.
There is no Boot loader, therfore directly jumped to the Kernel.
There is no start up application other than the browser so no waiting for
normal start up. Applications.
Since Finally it already Knows your Google Account so it again saves the
time.
So In turn Google chrome is on can often boot in 5 seconds.
15
20. Chrome OS on Microsoft
20
• Google plans to attack Microsoft's core business by taking on the software
giant's globally dominant Windows operating system for personal computers.
• Google did not say how much it would charge for the operating system (OS), but
End expects Google to charge at most a nominal fee or make it free, saying the
company's business model has been to earn revenue from connecting
applications or advertising.
• Google is planning to capture Microsoft Share of 90%.
• Google is going to lock in partnerships with PC maker such as HP & Dell.
• HP & Dell are using 90% + windows on most of there products
21. Current Research
• Presently Working on “Chromium OS” Project the sub OS of Chrome &
just like chrome browser look a like Chromium. But more fast and Secure
and cover up all chrome OS faults .
• And Also working with Android to make the Operating system & Web
application Much better.
• And further Chances to be release the Open Source OS Free to all
systems or hardware support globally just to end the era of microsoft .
• And new recent update is has been introduced “Aura shell” that gives the
traditional desktop familiar look like window.
• Soon Chrome Os /chromium OS (Mordern & Updated) is available to
every individual.
21
22. Merits & Demerits
(i)Merits:
• OS is free or can say free of charge.
• The Chrome OS is impressive, especially the loading speed of the system.
• Even if an operating system that works in the cloud, Chrome OS has a feature to work offline,
providing the tools even without being connected. Google Docs, for example, can be used normally
even without any internet connection. Changes made to documents are automatically synchronized with
the documents online so the computer is connected to the internet.
• Convinent And easy to use.
(ii) Demerits:
• Installing a bit laborious and also presents some small bugs.
• Although most users who often work with your computer is connected all the time, that does not
necessarily mean that everyone has a quality signal. Especially in Brazil, where the infrastructure and
the prices do not allow everyone to have access to high-speed connection, this can mean trouble.
• Storing information on the Internet can also be a recipe for cybercriminals. After all, a raid on an online
service not only undermines the login information of users, but all documents stored there, which can
range from simple school projects to confidential reports on companies.
22
23. Conclusion
As the web becomes more and more the main place users spend
their time on the internet, Chrome Operating System will become
increasingly attractive. Eventually we could see a machine that
only needs access to the web to run applications and store data to
the cloud. In this scenario Google’s Chrome Operating System will
already be one up on the competition.

The firmware contributes to fast boot time by not probing for hardware, such as floppy disk drives, that are no longer common on computers, especially netbooks. The firmware also contributes to security by verifying each step in the boot process and incorporating system recovery.
• System-level software includes the Linux kernel that has been patched to improve boot performance. Userland software has been trimmed to essentials, with management by Upstart, which can launch services in parallel,
re-spawn crashed jobs, and defer services in the interest of faster booting.
• The window manager handles user interaction with multiple client windows much like other X window managers.
