  2. 2. Understanding GPRS <ul><li>Understanding GPRS: a packet-oriented mobile data service available to users of 2G mobile communication system of global system for mobile communications (GSM), and also the 3G system </li></ul>

Reason for use GPRS <ul><li>Reasons for the use of GPRS: </li></ul><ul><li>able to take advantage of global coverage capabilities owned GSM </li></ul><ul><li>eliminate or reduce some of the barrier for mobile data access </li></ul><ul><li>offers a communication link in the form of point-to-point or multipoint </li></ul><ul><li>security has been a hallmark for packet data. </li></ul><ul><li>appeared as a communication 'always' connected so that a relationship sessions short and direct access to the internet </li></ul><ul><li>has a data rate up to 115 kbps, which means double the connections 'dial up' the current 56 kbps </li></ul>

GPRS backbone network components <ul><li>GPRS backbone network architecture has several components: </li></ul><ul><li>Border Gateway GPRS network link between the operator so that the data communication through different operators can be done </li></ul><ul><li>DNS - Domain Name Sever Server which provides a logical name change to the IP address or vice versa. Control in addition to changing the IP address for the Internet network, also change the IP address for GPRS own local network </li></ul><ul><li>LIG - Lawful Interception Gateway This section allows you to store traffic data specific to each user. LIG contains information (log) traffic data to be transferred by the user </li></ul>

Security GPRS backbone <ul><li>Firwall and Network Management Stations (FNMS & NMS) </li></ul><ul><li>Firewalls are used to prevent the GPRS network from outside attack. </li></ul><ul><li>There are 2 kinds: </li></ul><ul><li>Intra-PLMN backbone network, connecting between GSN dlm an operator the same </li></ul><ul><li>Inter-PLMN backbone network connecting the GSN and intra-PLMN backbone network between the operator and provides GPRS international roaming </li></ul>
