General Introduction <ul><li>The Portuguese created new, chaotic, and scrambling colonies. </li></ul><ul><li>The Portuguese utilized landscape around them to the best of their abilities. </li></ul><ul><li>Enslaving Indians was a major factor into whether or not they would have been able to sustain themselves. </li></ul>
  3. 3. Damiana Da Cunha <ul><li>Some from Portugal searched for gold in the hills of Goias. </li></ul><ul><li>They set up ranches for mining with cattle and small camps. </li></ul><ul><li>Towns began to show up where ever gold was found. </li></ul>

Francisca <ul><li>Even when the Portuguese colonated and got involved with native Indians such as the famous Francisca, they still never had her learn their language. </li></ul><ul><li>The Portuguese still in need of servants on their plantations, began using the natives. </li></ul><ul><li>A few hundred slaves where brought there by Portugal every year for a hundred years. </li></ul>
  5. 5. Online Sources <ul><li>In the 1400s explorers set off for the coast of Africa. </li></ul><ul><li>This was a challenge for the navigation technology they had at this point in history. </li></ul><ul><li>By the 1500s they accidentally landed on the shores of south america. </li></ul>
  6. 6. Online Sources <ul><li>In the 1500s Portugal began exploring and colonizing in Brazil. </li></ul><ul><li>The colonization was made possible by “land grants” </li></ul><ul><li>Each settlement was to have everything a city in Portugal might have. </li></ul>
  7. 7. Online Sources <ul><li>Around 1640 is the mark of the Imperial decline. </li></ul><ul><li>One of the main reasons for this was the sudden loss of colonies. </li></ul><ul><li>Many of these colonies were given up to the English. </li></ul>
