  2. 2. Guerilla Warfare <ul><li>Guerilla Warfare- a type of warfare that takes place in hostile territory by uneven forces </li></ul><ul><li>Vietnamese used Guerilla warfare from the examples set by the Chinese </li></ul>
  3. 3. Vietcong <ul><li>Vietnamese Communists, part of the National Liberation Front (NLF) </li></ul><ul><li>Their main office was in South Vietnam near the Cambodian border </li></ul><ul><li>For ammunition and equipment, they depended on the Ho Chi Minh trail </li></ul><ul><li>Vietcong practiced guerilla warfare </li></ul>
  4. 4. Vietnam and Guerilla Warfare <ul><li>For instructions for soldiers, dozens of hidden centers had Vietnamese leaders for weapon and radio training. </li></ul><ul><li>Part of the political instruction to give a purpose for war. </li></ul>

Weaponry/Tactics <ul><li>Troops used Chinese versions of a Russian AK- 47 submachine gun, and other types of machine guns (heavy, medium, light) </li></ul><ul><li>Homemade booby traps and mines </li></ul><ul><li>Vietnamese soldiers would retrieve the bomb duds from the 20,000 tons of American explosions– they created new weapons off of that </li></ul><ul><li>“ Punji traps”- sharp spikes hidden in pits </li></ul><ul><li>They used surface-to-air missiles (SAM) </li></ul>

Tunnels <ul><li>To help protect remote areas, Vietnamese soldiers built underground tunnel systems </li></ul><ul><li>Each villager in NLF dug three feet a day </li></ul><ul><li>Biggest tunnels in Iron Triangle and Cu Chi District- about 200 miles of tunnels </li></ul><ul><li>Used for store rooms for weapons and rice </li></ul><ul><li>Included hospitals, kitchens, sleeping chambers </li></ul><ul><li>Connected with other tunnels for communication </li></ul>
