In Store: o An eye-catching, succinct headline readily indicates brand identity. o Announce specials in ad or on signage around building location. o Ask every person who comes into the pet store for e-mail addresses, enter them database. Let them know about relevant products, offers, events. o Consider seasonal marketing so customers buy things for pets for major holidays. o Create store related puzzles / games. o Focus on improving customer satisfaction. Hire employees with a passion for animals. o Train staff on responding to e-mails and phone calls promptly and cordially. o Free pet-owner registration or documentation for pet owners. o Events:  Classes and seminars (dog grooming, fish tank cleaning and maintenance).  Host pet recognition day, adoption days or tryout days, where customers can come in and play with puppies, kittens, etc.  Orchestrating or at least helping community cleanups, becoming involved local school group, charities, organizations establish relationships others area. o Manufacturers can come for pet supply product demonstrations. o Pet grooming is moneymaker pet stores. Giving free groom for every three or four purchased grooms keeps them coming on regular basis. Offering free groom day results in increased sales boost while customers wait for pets groomed. Out of the Store: o 2-sided or folded cards with pet store hours, location and website address. Hand out to customers at trade or events. o Customers could schedule appointments for pets online. o Put stickers on waiting room magazines. o Research and promote in local publications, newsletters, newspapers, pet magazines, fliers at grocery or veterinary stores and advertising spaces. Purchase ad space from local veterinarians. Partnerships: o Consider complementary partnerships with non-competing businesses. Local banks, coffee shops, gas tations will usually agree to give away dog bones. Giveaways: o Offering personalized pet collars, paw frames, pet photographs and/ or ornaments are some ways to show customer appreciation.
