Jonas - The GiverJonas’ adversity was thathe was the new Receiver forthe community.The Giver gave hismemories to Jonas.Some of them were nice,but others weren’t so good.One day he realized whathis community was doingand he did not want to havethe memories anymore.He wanted everyone in thecommunity to know what itis like to have suchmemories.
Jonas – The GiverJonas overcomesthis adversity byrunning away fromthe community.He wants everyoneto know what it islike to bear suchmemories.He never returnsagain.
Adam Zebrin - ZebraAdam’s adversity wasthat he liked running andhurt himself.He hurt himself byrunning down a hill andcould not stop becausehe was going so fast.He ran into a car and hadto get a cast for his handand a brace for his leg.His hand still hurtsoccasionally but, his legbrace came off and hemight not run as fastagain.
Adam Zebrin - ZebraAdam overcomesthis adversityafter he took asummer art classhis hand startedto get better.After it was fullyhealed, the castwas taken off andhe could runagain.
Jimmy Valentine - A Retrieved ReformationJimmy Valentine’sadversity was that hewas in jail for robbingbanks and got a pardonand was going to changehis life. He then moves toElmore, Arkansas wherehe settles down and isabout to marry abanker’s daughter,Annabel.Then, a week before theirmarriage, Agatha,Annabel’s niece getstrapped in the safe andJimmy has to dosomething or she woulddie.
Jimmy Valentine - A Retrieved ReformationJimmy overcomes thisadversity byusing his tools toget Agatha out.After his work isfinished, he justwalks out andnever comes backagain.
ReflectionsJonas’ adversity was that he did notwant to be the Receiver anymore.He over comes this adversity by runningaway.Adam’s adversity is that he wants to runbut he can’t because he hurt his arm andleg.He overcomes this adversity by takingthis summer art class and slowly hisarm heals.Jimmy Valentines adversity is that hewas a bank robber and got a chance toturn his life around. When he was aboutto give his tools to his friend, hisfiancé’s niece got trapped in a safe andhe was the only one that could save her.He overcomes this adversity by gettingher niece out of the safe and never talksto her again.
