David Pflieger: Virgin America’s Climate Commitment
As the former Senior Vice President of Legal andGovernment Affairs and General Counsel for VirginAmerica, David Pflieger played a central role in theairline’s efforts to become a more environmentallyfriendly company. These efforts included a number of“green” initiatives, all designed to help reduce emissionsand provide transparency to customers regarding theairline’s carbon footprint.
Under David Pflieger’s direction, Virgin developed areputation as one of the United States’ mostenvironmentally conscious airlines. The company wasestablished with a fleet of new Airbus planes, whichfeatured cutting-edge technology designed to save fuel.In 2008, Virgin joined the Climate Leaders program, anorganization that helps companies work with theEnvironmental Protection Agency to develop action plansfor reducing their emissions.
Furthermore, in 2009, the company joined The ClimateRegistry in order to provide independently verifiedemissions reports to consumers. Alongside other membersof the Registry such as Red Bull, Ford, Pacific Gas &Electric, and Wal-Mart, as well as numerous states,municipalities, and governmental agencies, VirginAmerica has made a public commitment to shrinking itsenvironmental footprint.
