There are five areas of development that children undergo as they grow to be young adults.
These steps appear in a rather predictable sequence, one after the other. They are not like
steps of a ladder leading to higher and higher levels. Rather, they are like a spiral of stages through which a child cycles endlessly as they grow and mature. At some point the highest level of attainment may not be reached in a given area but that does not mean the child cannot progress to other areas of the spiral.
