Marketing tip for iphone apps

  1. 1. Marketing Tips for your Mobile Application 10  tips  to  remember  when  planning  an  mobile  app Thursday, August 12, 2010
  2. 2. 1– Don’t wait for the last minute. Think  marketing  early  in  the  development  if  not  before   you  even  starting  coding  your  application Wouldn’t  it  be  cool  to  have   buyers  waiting  for  you   instead  of  looking  for  them at  the  last  minute? Lead  generation  anyone? Thursday, August 12, 2010
  3. 3. 2– Make sure you define a target. Repeat  with  me:  “anyone”  isn’t  a  target. Being  featured  on  Techcrunch  is  really  cool...  but  won’t   really  help  if  you  are  selling  a  Yoga  app. Build  a  relationship  with  your  target  prior  the  launch  of   your  application  or  you  will  just  look  like  a  spammer. Thursday, August 12, 2010
  4. 4. 3– Start early and build momentum. Even one page, but make it look good Create  a  brand:  Logo  +  Website  +  Social  Presence. Promote  discussion  around  your   app  domain  on  blogs  and  social  networks. Build  desire  for  your  app  and  offer  to  highly  visible  people  exclusive  beta  testing. Thursday, August 12, 2010
  5. 5. 4– Make your app promote itself. Example  of  in-‐app  self  promotion: •  require  other  people  to  download  it  in  order  to  be  used •  sharing  the  results  of  an  action  on  social  networks •  invite  to  rate  the  application  itself •  invite  friends  to  download  the  app Thursday, August 12, 2010
  6. 6. 5– Leverage your other apps. Free  version  (ad  supported  or  limited  functionality). Simple  related  apps  released  before  the  main  application   to  collect  leads  and  create  an  audience. Updates  to  old  application  with  links  to  the  new  application. Thursday, August 12, 2010
  7. 7. 6– Leverage other people success. Integrate  services  with  an  existing  users  base. Don’t  be  afraid  to  ask  for  promotion. While  you  are  there,  if  they  have  an  afWiliate  program   use  it  for  additional  revenues. Thursday, August 12, 2010
  8. 8. 7– Don’t pull the price out of your a$$. It  should’t  be  a  race  to  the  bottom, it’s  a  race  to  see  who  makes  the  most  money. “My  app  is  cheaper”  isn’t  a  marketing  strategy, it’s  not  about  price,  it’s  about  perceived  value. Research  your  market  and  your  competition. Thursday, August 12, 2010
  9. 9. 8– Four days to rule them all. Most of your success is built before this point You are here Day  4  +  Day  3  +  Day  2  +  Day  1 Word  of  mouth  +  Blogs Blogs  +  Twitter App  Store  +  Twitter Thursday, August 12, 2010
  10. 10. 9– Think different. Market different. Try  to  tackle  a  market  from  a  different  angle. Be  ready  to  pivot.  Let  your  users  help  you  Wind your  real  target. If  you  are  copying  a  successful  concept  you  are probably  already  too  late. Thursday, August 12, 2010
  11. 11. 10– Everything else. Keep  the  app  lightweight  so  that  can  be  downloaded  on   3g  networks. Launch  your  app  on  a  Thursday. Be  seasonal.  Those  can  be  short  time  hits, but  seasons  always  come  back. Thursday, August 12, 2010
