  1. 1. KBOX 101 K1000 Asset Module For more information on Software Distribution go here. And for more detailed info on Systems Deployment go here.
  2. 2. Beginning Asset ModuleFirst we are going totake a look at the assetmodule and click oncomputer. We make iteasy by pulling in all ofthe computer namesand make all of themeasy to access with justone click. In that page you will beable to see the detailedinformation of thatcomputer and at thebottom of the page itwill show you the assetinformation.
  3. 3. Creating Asset TypesBefore we begin editingthese we want to createasset types and extendtheir existinginformation. Next we’regoing to extend twoasset types and aftercreate two new assettypes just to show youthe process a little.
  4. 4. Asset Types EditTo edit the informationof the asset types clickon computer andeverything that’s underthe gray bar are thedifferent attributes weare going to create.Click on the green plussign to the right and abox will appear belowName to begin enteringthe appropriateinformation. There aremultiple options undereach field that allowunique customization foreach asset type.
  5. 5. Asset Type Edit Continued…Now let’s go back to theAsset Tab and you willsee the additional rowsfor each of the attributesyou added. Take notethat the screen will onlyshow you six columns, itwill be whatever the firstsix were. All of theother assets aresearchable andupdatable, they justwon’t be shown here.
  6. 6. Updating Asset Info…If we then go back toAssets and select theView by drop downmenu and you canchange what you areseeing from Computerto Monitor. There aretwo ways to updateAsset Information, youcan do one item at atime or use the ImportOption.
  7. 7. Updating Asset Info…To update one at a timeyou click on the assetyou wish to update andclick on it. Go to thebottom of the page andslick on “Edit this Asset”and in the next screenyou can use the dropdown menus and editthe information, clicksave, and you’re doneand you will see that itupdated the informationon the next slide.
  8. 8. Updating Asset Info…
  9. 9. Multiple Updates SimultaneouslyNow what if we wanted toupdate lots of items all atonce? This is where theImport Function is goingto save you hundreds ofhours of work were you toupdate each item one ata time. First click onAsset Import where youwill select the file youwould like to select. Onething I would recommendis that you use HeaderRows because that willbe valuable in anupcoming step.
  10. 10. ImportingThe next step it will askus is what type of assetwe will be importing too.In the drop down it willshow us every type ofAsset we created before.Next it will ask us tomatch up the fields (nextslide). This is why HeaderRows are important andshould be identical, it willbe much much easier foryou. After selecting yourCSV fields click on whichone (The Name is mostcommon) is the PrimaryKey/PK and clickPreview.
  11. 11. Importing Mapping Screen
  12. 12. Finished Import Screen…Then you just have toImport Data and thenclick Done afterreviewing the info. Thefinished product shouldlook like this.
  13. 13. Relating FeaturesThe next feature we aregoing to work on is howto relate one feature ofan Asset to another. We do this by going toAsset Types andselecting a particularasset that will take us tothe Asset Type Detailscreen. Then click onthe plus sign just likebefore; in this case wewill type in AssignedUser and then go to thedrop down in the FieldType row where you’llsee User, select thatand click save andyou’re done.
  14. 14. Software MeteringFinally, the last thing wewant to examine todayis Software Metering. We access this throughthe Asset button at thetop, 3rd from the left andunder the Metering tab. This feature lets yousee how much aparticular piece ofsoftware is being used.
  15. 15. Metering Continued…What we need to do toget started are just afew simple steps for set-up. First click onInventory at the top andselect the Software tab.
  16. 16. Metering Set Up Continued…From here we canselect Create SmartLabel and fill thespecific display nameyou are searching for. Then below it will showthe file along with thenumber of computers itis installed on. Thenenter the name of thelabel and click CreateSmart Label.
  17. 17. Metering Set Up Continued…Next we need to go intothe Asset moduel andwe are going to changeour Asset type in theView by drop downmenu to software.
  18. 18. Metering Set Up Continued…From here we will clickon the New Asset withthe green plus sign atthe top next to Asset. Inthis window you createa software asset typefor Filezilla (the file wechose earlier) as seenhere.
  19. 19. Finished Set Up…Now we can see underAssets and we can seethe software asset andthe license. Now weneed to configure theactual meter. And withthis we need to knowwhat process name weneed to monitor sincethat is essentially whatwe do with softwaremetering. Start byselecting Choose Actionafter clicking on theMetering tab and clickAdd New Item and selectEnabled and select theProcess name (Filezilla)and other fields and save.
  20. 20. Finished…Back on the SoftwareMetering screen we will seethe Filezilla Asset Title there.Next we need to configurethe settings so we want toclick on Choose Action againand Configure Settings.Which will take us herewhere we can check theEnable, Allow Run WhileDisconnected, and AllowRun While Logged Offboxes, if we don’t do all ofthese steps here Meteringwon’t work. Make sure youselect which machines it willdeploy to as well or it won’twork. As always, click saveand you’re done.
