  3. 5. <ul><li>Treaty of St Germain: </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Disintegration of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Loss of territories meant that it became a predominantly Germanic state: </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><ul><li>6 million with 1/3 residing in Vienna. </li></ul></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Austria was severely weakened by the terms of the treaty and dependent on the West and LoN. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>What could Austria do in the long term? </li></ul></ul>
  4. 6. <ul><li>Treaty of Trianon: </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Hungary was forced to give up much of its territories to ¼ of its original size. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Economically weakened – borders cut off factories from traditional area of supplies. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><ul><li>Why? </li></ul></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Influx of refugees from the new states. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Hungarian views of Trianon: </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><ul><li>Unjust </li></ul></ul></ul><ul><ul><ul><li>Hostility toward new states. </li></ul></ul></ul>

  6. 8. <ul><li>Treaty of Severes </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Harsh – Loss of land and most of its empire. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Creation of LoN administration zone in Constantinople. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Rejection by the Turkish Nationalists: </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><ul><li>Led to war and eventually a revision of the Treaty. </li></ul></ul></ul><ul><li>Treaty of Lausanne </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Turkey regained control of most of its lost territories. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Ottoman empire abolished – Turkish Republic was set up. </li></ul></ul>
