IEEE-SA, CS SAB and ISTO <ul><li>Objectives </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Ensure the success of the SA, CS SAB and ISTO for the benefit of industry, each organization, and the IEEE. </li></ul></ul><ul><li>Activities </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Relationship building and education efforts toward key IEEE standards groups. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Initiate proactive joint business development activities where/if feasible </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Pursue a viable candidate for a “parallel consortia” to support an IEEE Standards activity (e.g., WiMax, WiFi Alliance, 1394 TA, etc.) </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>ISTO’s legal umbrella and 501(c)(6) exemption provides the infrastructure to support conformance and/or interoperability testing in support of IEEE Standards. </li></ul></ul>

ISTO and Conformance and Interoperability <ul><li>The IEEE-ISTO (and the IEEE-SA) have discussed an initiative to provide a full-service program to support various aspects of validation, conformance and interoperability activities related to products and implementations manufactured in accordance with IEEE standards. </li></ul><ul><li>Benefits </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Leverages the Powerful IEEE Brand in the Marketplace (Business to Business and End-User) </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Taps into Existing Core Competencies of ISTO Staff and Organization Structure </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Establishes Synergy between SA (through Society Sponsored activities) and ISTO </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Post-Publication Activities Related to IEEE Standards remain affiliated with IEEE through the ISTO </li></ul></ul><ul><li>Unique program to extend scope of post-development activities in support of IEEE Standards. </li></ul><ul><li>A complement to, not a competitor of, current processes </li></ul><ul><li>Marketplace recognizes importance of interoperability and compliance </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Why shouldn’t IEEE and its Societies benefit from its brand (e.g., Wi-Fi ™ , WiMax ™ )? </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Test labs, companies, and other organizations have demonstrated interests to work with IEEE in this area. </li></ul></ul>
