Influence of L1 in the acquisition of L2Dannae Del Campo MéndezThe process of acquiring a second language includes factors that can beconsidered as positive or negative ones. During this assignment I realized that theinfluence of an L1 in an English class depends on us, future teachers. The use ofSpanish in an English class is not completely wrong but the use of too much Spanish itwill be damaging for learners. As long as teachers help students to make usefulconnections it will be useful to the class and not only helping them but also teachersshould be aware on their students’ needs and interests in the classroom rather than whatthey will need in the future so we can keep them motivated. Thus, teachers will guidethe issue of interference of L1 in L2 in a way to make it a positive factor. Plus, it is alsoquite important to challenge our students so they can improve their knowledge becauseif we give them an input which is below their capacity they will not progress in theirlearning. Finally, having knowledge about the strategies and issues in the process ofacquiring a second language will help us, as future teachers to develop a class in whichstudents will truly progress.
