Phrasal verbs <ul><li>Phrasal verbs are verbs which are followed by one or more particles. </li></ul><ul><li>Looking forward to, look up, run out of </li></ul><ul><li>Phrasal verbs can be: </li></ul><ul><li>Literal – They keep the same meaning of the verb </li></ul><ul><li>When the bell rang all the kids ran out of the classroom and left school. </li></ul><ul><li>Idiomatic – They change the meaning of the original verb. </li></ul><ul><li>Oh no! we run out of gas and the nearest gas station is five miles from here! </li></ul>

PHRASAL VERBS <ul><li>Meanings </li></ul><ul><li>Come up with create or produce </li></ul><ul><li>Come across find by accident </li></ul><ul><li>Look forward to to anticipate with pleasure </li></ul><ul><li>Look up try to find information in a book </li></ul><ul><li>Put up with tolerate </li></ul><ul><li>Run out of to finish </li></ul><ul><li>Take off to leave the ground (airplane) </li></ul>
