What should be included in a magazine
advert?
 Artists Name
 Album and Single’s name
 QR Code
 A main image - linked to song/ artist
 Release dates – is it available now? To preorder?
 Some important ratings/ reviews
 Brand identity – links to fonts/images/text
 Where it can be purchased/ What format? – iTunes
 Artists website
 Album includes a specific single or exclusive
 Logo
+
Why does it need to be included?
Of course the artist and the
albums name is important on a
magazine advertisement because
it is used in order to promote both
the artist and their album. It is
significant as the audience need
to be able to recognise the name
of the album along with the artist.
A release date and purchase information
is important otherwise the audiences will
want to be able to purchase either the
single or album. The purchase
information allows audiences to know
when, how and where to order the
album or single.
A majority of magazine
adverts will include an image
of perhaps the artist or
album. This is significant for
audiences to know visually
what it is they are
purchasing. This also links
with brand identity because it
will have to link to the
digipak.
Includes ‘the single’, ‘the
video’, ‘exclusive’ or
‘featuring’ – This is done to
promote the artist, display
their latest single, exclusive
or who they have featured
on their album in order to
intrigue audiences.
Having a website on the magazine advert is significant because it helps audiences gain more
information regarding the album/singles. Depending on the target audience, websites are good
especially for genres such as pop because its target audience is usually teenagers – and they’re
always on technology and the internet.
+
Why does it need to be included?
 Ratings and reviews are going to tell
audiences how good the album is so then
they are persuaded into purchasing it. It is
important that only the good reviews are
used as the artist does not want to give their
product a bad name.
 A QR Code can be handy for magazine
adverts simply because audiences can use
their smart phone, scan the code and be sent
straight away to somewhere to find more
information about the album or even to
purchase it.
+
Website
 A website is a set of related web pages typically served from a
single web domain. A website is hosted on at least one web
server, accessible via a network such as the Internet. All
publicly accessible websites collectively constitute the World
Wide Web.
 The pages of a website can usually be accessed from a simple
Uniform Resource Locator (URL) called the wed address.
 Some websites often require a subscription to access some or
all of these content. Some examples of subscription websites
include: business sites, parts of news websites, academic
journal websites, gaming websites and so on.
+
Where it began – the History of the
Internet.
 In 1960’s, the internet was a result of people who saw potential in
allowing computers to share information on research and
development in scientific and military fields.
 Licklider of MIT first proposed a global network of computers in
1962, and moved over to the Defense Advanced Research
Projects Agency (DARPA) in late 1962 to head the work to develop
it.
 The internet was first developed as the ARPANET. It came when
Lawrence Roberts connected a Massachusetts computer with a
California computer in 1965 over dial-up telephone lines.
 The internet, back then was known as ARPANET, was brought
online in 1969 under a contract let by the renamed Advanced
Research Projects Agency (ARPA) which initially connected four
major computers at universities in the South-West of America.
+
History of the Internet..
 By January 1971, many other major organisations were added
and ‘plugged in’.
 Only computer experts, engineers, scientists and librarians
were the only people whom used the early internet because it
was far too complex to understand.
 In 1972, Ray Tomlinson adapted E-mail for ARPANET. On the
teletype, he simply picked the ‘@’ symbol from all the available
symbols in order to link the username and address together.
 In 1986, they improved the speed of the internet and
standardised commands so therefore it became a lot easier for
non=-technical people to learn to use the internet.
 As more and more organisations began to connect, the internet
became harder and harder to track. Therefore more tools were
need to index the resources available.
+
History of the Internet..
 The first effort to index the internet was created in 1989, as
Peter Deutsch and Alan Emtage create an archiver for ftp sites,
which they named Archie.
 This software would then reach out to all known openly
available sites, list their files and build a searchable index.
 The original Archie resulted being shut down because of a
large volume of internet traffic between Canada and America,
but many more ‘Archies’ were created by this time.
 Brewster Kahle developed his Wide Area Information Server,
which would index the full text of files in a database and allow
searches of the files.
 Not long after, Microsoft came along and developed the
Microsoft Internet Explorer.
+
History of the Internet..
 The internet was initially funded by the government, meaning it
was strictly limited to research, education and government
uses.
 In 1994, Tim Berners-Lee was persuaded to produce the World
Wide Web in order to promote and develop standard for the
internet.
 Since then, the internet has developed and grown to support
many new various ideas and formats. Websites can now be
capable of holding various media files, from full albums to
filmed footage.
+
Type of Websites:
The type of website I will be creating is a ‘celebrity’ website. This is usually
based around a celebrity and is either an official or fan-based web page. Of
course mine will be an official website dedicated to the artist I have chosen.
