Why Not Get Married in Phuket?

  1. 1. Phuket, located off the South West coast of Thailand is a perfect choice for your dream wedding. Boasting mile after mile of pristine white sand, stunning scenery for your photo back drops, delicious food, and a laid back vibe, it’s a touch of paradise.
  2. 2. You may be wondering whether you can in fact get legally married in Phuket and the simple answer to this is “yes”. You will both need to take a short visit to Bangkok to complete a letter of intent at your particular country’s embassy or consulate. Once this is done, you can either use the services of a wedding planner or translation service to handle the rest of the paperwork, or if you’re feeling confident, then you could visit the various government departments and do it yourself.
  3. 3. You’ll need to allow at least a week before your intended wedding date. Once you’ve got your marriage certificate the only thing left to do is to have it translated into your language so that it is officially recognised by your country of birth.
  4. 4. Wedding ceremony options Your marriage will first be registered at the district council offices in Phuket after which you can choose your type of ceremony. Choices include a traditional Thai, Buddhist, or Christian ceremony either at your wedding location or church. Alternatively you can design your own unique ceremony, writing your vows and exchanging them whilst sitting on top of a bejewelled elephant or floating in a wooden boat.
  5. 5. Wedding Locations When it comes to locations you really are spoiled for choice, but here’s a few ideas to set you thinking: Resorts – Phuket has many beautiful resorts which offer unique settings and a full wedding package. Generally these include accommodation, the wedding ceremony and a reception. They’ll also be able to provide contacts for florists, hairdressers, photographers and wedding celebrants.
  6. 6. Island – If you fancy something really romantic and intimate, then how about getting married on one of the exotic islands surrounding Phuket. The islands are isolated and picturesque and ideally suited for a simple wedding on the sands with just family and close friends. The photos will be out of this world! Water – Many couples like to get married on the water and in Phuket there’s a wide choice ranging from traditional junks and sailing boats to luxurious motor yachts. Again, this option is best suited to small wedding parties.
  7. 7. Private villa – Phuket boasts some magnificent luxurious villas to rent, dotted along the coastline with simply breathtaking sea views. Perfect for an intimate wedding, you and your guests are guaranteed total privacy with no strangers appearing in the background of your photos. With a chef to provide high quality cuisine, you’ll have some lovely memories to take home with you.
  8. 8. Laguna Wedding chapel – Supported on stilts and jutting out into the lagoon, this charming chapel is the choice of many couples looking for a traditional ceremony option. The chapel features glass sliding doors which can be opened for an outdoors feel and also enjoys a stunning lake view. Just imagine arriving and departing by a private vessel with your guests clapping and cheering. How special would that feel?
  9. 9. As a destination wedding choice, Phuket really does have something for everyone’s taste and budget and what’s more it’s the perfect setting for a honeymoon too.
