  3. 3. What is an Operating System? ● Operating system is a software collection of applications, libraries, and developer tools, plus a program to allocate resources and talk to the hardware, known as a kernel.
  4. 4. What is a GNU/Linux Distro? ● GNU/Linux Distro is a Distribution of GNU Operating System which uses a program named “Linux” as its kernel instead of “GNU Hurd”
  5. 5. What is Free Software? ● Free software is a matter of liberty, not price. To understand the concept, think of “free” as in “free speech”. ● Free software is a matter of the users freedom to run, copy, distribute, study, change and improve the software
  6. 6. Freedoms in Free Software ● Run the program, for any purpose ● Study how the program works, and adapt it to your needs. Access to the source code is a precondition for this ● Redistribute copies so you can help your neighbor ● Improve the program, and release your improvements to the public, so that the whole community benefits.
