Enterprise 2.0 = Knowledge Management 2.0?

Originally presented at the Boston KM Forum meeting at Bentley, Wednesday, April 9, 2008.

At the time, our first-quarter 2008 “Market IQ” on Enterprise 2.0 had just been completed, and a survey of 441 people revealed a subset who are having more success with Enterprise 2.0 than the general survey population. Does Enterprise 2.0 signify the birth of KM 2.0? We’ll examine some of the findings, and discuss the implications for new and old KM implementations.

  • @ShibumiMC Ah, don't think I was at the Palm Springs event, but as a former security guy AND a knowledge management practitioner, I very much agree with your premise. General history, I've never been all that much interested in, but history learned from and improved within industries or across industries (the basis of TRIZ - a very deep innovation toolkit based on 'someone somewhere has already solved your problem') - spot on.

  • I was at the (I think Delphi) KM conference in Palm Springs in 2012 I think where I presented on 'KM in the post 9/11 World.' Having worked in KM in public safety and security I gave my usual rant about if we don't get smarter - and sooner - we could lose again and again.

  • David - I like it, and your list of high-level use cases or 'reasons to do KM' is spot on. Organizational Development (OD). Competitive Intelligence and Environmental Scanning (CI). Innovation. Competency. Governance. Transparency. Communications, collaboration and teamwork. Completely agree on the idea of architecting environments to support knowledge work - hence the name of my company, Information Architected. Not all information is knowledge, granted, but I'm interested in the broadest possible set of options. Did we ever run across each other through any Delphi Group events? I was with the firm from 1994 through 2007.
