  3. 3. History ● LSU was found by the Louisiana General Assembly in 1853 under the name Louisiana● First Session: State Seminary of Beginning Learning and Military Academy Jan. 2, and was located 1860 near PineVille, LA.
  4. 4. Cost of Attendence Cost of attendance is an estimate of the total expenses for a student attending Louisiana State University. The total figure includes tuition and fees, room and board(dorm and meal plan costs for an on campus student, or housing and food allowances for an off campus student), books, transportation, and miscellaneous expenses. The portions that the student will owe to the university are tuition and fees. If the student will live oncampus, he or she will also owe room and board fees to the university.

In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, LSU accepted an additional 2,300 displaced students from the greater NewOrleans area, such as Tulane University, Loyola University of New Orleans, and University of New Orleans. In addition toaccepting displaced students, university officials also took on the challenge of housing and managing many hurricanevictims, converting the Pete Maravich Assembly Center into a fully functional field hospital. Around 3,000 LSU studentsvolunteered during the months after Katrina, assisting with the administration of medical treatment to some 5,000 evacuees and screening another 45,000 for various diseases.
