Brief History Pre-2010 – CARL IT North and South North and South combined in early 2010 IG seemed to go on “hiatus” CARL-IT IG restarted in March 2012 Re-started CARL IT sites and social media channels IG luncheon was useful kickoff point
Current Efforts Find more members! Find more presenters! Plan for activity at CARL Conference 2014
Development of On-Air Once a month meetings 20-30 minutes in duration with time for discussion Target audience size of 10 attendees or more; not aiming for very large groups Somewhat informal presentations on technology-related topics Use as a means of building relationships and discovering common interests Protect privacy / avoid needing to gain permission Presenters encouraged to: Discuss technology topic or tool from their work, research, interests Re-use existing presentation materials Use some type of online presentation application
What’s Working: Good attendance Last session had some terrific questions Occasional slowing of Hangout Hangouts is easy to use and manage Plenty of topic ideasWhat isn’t Working: Can’t find anyone else to present Handling questions is awkward Limited feedback – are we picking topics that the membership wants to see?
Next Steps: 3 more sessions by steering committee Email to CARL-IT IG asking for presenters Offer small discussion session via Hangout or On- AirOther Alternatives: AnyMeeting: http://www.anymeeting.com/
