  3. 3. <ul><ul><li>The Ottoman empire also was an imperialist nation. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>  Egypt became a more modern nation </li></ul></ul><ul><li>   Egypt sought independence just like the British colonies had. </li></ul><ul><li>   With Muhammad Ali as a leader (Ottoman Army officer)  reformed the army, public school systems, helped create small industries </li></ul><ul><li>   The Egyptians also became so strong that eventually even as land was being conquered by the British, they were able to fend them off. </li></ul>
