General Teaching Plan: work through slideshow, stopping along the way for three short activities. Take the time to show off the sample web sites in some detail. Conclude with a group photo.
The big question: why am I special? Lots more go into this that aren’t on this list.
1st activity. After 5 minutes, ask for volunteers. Encourage those who are stuck to think about the different communities they are a part of.
Talk the “cabinet of curiosities” metaphor, briefly. We’re going to return to that last idea in a little while. But be thinking: Why is taking control important?
Click through on each of the links, and show off the features of the site. Definitely play the latest AUSome vlog.
Activity 3. Google yourself. What do you find. What do you WANT to find? Take a couple of minutes, then discussion. How can you control your search results? Not by removing stuff--but by ADDING content. Actively choosing, rather than passively accepting. Then have them compare one person’s tweets/FB statuses in a group of two-three, then report back.
Activity 2. Discuss with your neighbor until you have answers to each of these questions. Put some things on the board after 5-10 minutes discussion.
