  8. 8. 8 Promote search results SharePoint uses query rules to conditionally promote important results while also showing groups of additional results. By editing the query rules, you can choose how to present and prioritize search results.
  9. 9. 9 Take advantage of query rules Choosing the most relevant query rule returns the results that are most pertinent to your search terms. In this example, there are a number of query rules already defined, including an inactive query rule for a phone promotion.
  10. 10. 10 Edit query rules To change a query rule, select it and pick the Edit option from the drop-down menu. The query rule will only fire when certain conditions are met—in this case, only on the most relevant source, and on the category Smart phones.
  11. 11. 11 Use categories Tying promotions to specific categories of merchandise is simple. Just click the Add Category link, and in the dialog box that opens, select the appropriate category from the nested menu.
  12. 12. 12 Change promoted results Promotions often change over time, but changing promoted results is easy. You can change the title of your promotion, link the promotion to a product image, and opt to change the link to a banner.
  13. 13. 13 Publish a promotion Activating a promotion publishes it for all to see. Simply select the Is Active check box. You can also set the start and end date parameters to disable the promotion automatically.
