Canada’s National Research and Education Network, like other ultra-speed research networks, has evolved to transfer massive amounts of data at 100Gbps and beyond. But with the volume of data traffic growing at more than 50% per year, the ability to move increasing volumes of data is challenging. What are the kinds of applications in research and education that are driving this growth? What are the implications of the coming data tsunami on our communication networks? And what happens to network economics to keep up with the demand?
