  2. 2.   <ul><li>This medal is awarded annually by the Association for Library Services to Children, &quot;to the artist of the most distinguished American picture book for children&quot; produced in that year. </li></ul>
  3. 3.   <ul><li>It was established in 1938 by Fredric Melcher, chairman of the board of the R.R.Bowker Publishing Company and Editor of Publishers Weekly . </li></ul><ul><li>He saw the need to recognize Children's book illustrators after he set up the Newbery Award. </li></ul>
  4. 4. Randolph Caldecott <ul><li>19th century British illustrator, who influenced his profession for the better. </li></ul><ul><li>Started off as a banker, and decided to take the risk of making a living as an artist. </li></ul>
