  • •Good morning, for thsdntalredyknw my name is Curt White and I’m the new Dir of Tech here @ ysc• thnkfr insight spt tech• pstbrdmtngmaterls – prsence result yrs disc• I’m here to tell you about the solutions to those needs• bdgt time for lots Q&A
  • • I’ve known ysc as for almost two years – wife is VW, prev database mngr• During that time been student NYU biomolecular engineering• Been working w/ nonprofits entire career• Arduino, robotics & medical devices, read patents
  • • Important to com mindset of tech deptMore than any other data driven, analytical, contingency mindful New hire will play important role, quality more important experience• Structured relationships, dept needs assessments and dept outcomes• genuinely believe YSC has more to benefit from technology than any other worked with
  • These are the ysc database systemsSandwiched Fin & raz ion office serverConvio in cloudsMultiple Websites (tdp, main BF, soc media)
  • - What is crm?- Don’t currently have CRM, only half of ConvioLuminate- All staff members need access to constituent informationMany
  • • Cust dash w/ live reporting, only needed comp• Every time YSC touches a const, it goes in system• respond to specific const needs• General needs and outcomes tracking
  • • How does it all fit together?• How prioritized?People include constituentsNetwork includes message boardsMny websites- don’t over focus soc media
  • 3 main options1)ConvioLuminate CRM – other half – based on force.net arch – fits next to current Luminate Online2) Salesforce – huge community – free – RE Sync may be problem 3) Custom pages and apps using APIs - more imbedded forms – more fields
  • • Laundry list of apps• Just like apple and android app store• API Google apps + yahoo pipes data mining
  • • Servers old, decaying – building roof leaks •disaster recovery• Controlled access to system• Cheaper – physical servers need maintenance & upgrading
  • • Server stack 60ft away• Old, need upgrading• High maintenance• Email needs upgrade• Cloud solution: MS Office 365Includes Office products, exchange, outlook• Citrix is despised and goes unused – don’t need it – access fin & raz edge remotely
  • • “W drive” is drag on productivity• Unorganized, slow, small, remote access difficult• Move to clouds: MS Skydrive• Registers as HD on PCs (in “My Computer”)• Rogue drop box use – unsecure – lose filesSkydrive duplicates Dropbox functionality
  • • Don’t think of website as a high tech brochure • website is portal to other services• MUST be cross compatible and integratable• Management includes all depts
  • Common at orgs with no tech staffVendor virtually blackmails clientsCosts LOTS of money b/c at their mercyProprietary systems inextensibleAvoid whenever possible
  • • Drupal example of good website platform• People create custom modules for it• Everyone familiar• Will NOT migrate primy site anytime soon, but….
  • • YSC message boards historical strength• MUST be strength again• CORE of how tech helps YSC (tech dpt logic)• Move to The Port was devastating
  • • Supported by message board specific constituent survey• Easy to migrate old mesbrd content• Powerful, widely used
  • • Massive Survey conducted by Julie Burns• Discussion with YSC independent Facebook Forum users• Presentation and disc at summer summit• Const compare & evaluate five platforms• Design informed by this data• Internal testing, key const testing, beta testing group• In depth user guides, videos and possibly eLearning lessons
  • • We won’t succeed at everything presented … that’s OK• Succeed at core goals and strive for more• zero sum game• Compromise speed and cost, never quality• Build skills, tools and capability for unseen circumstances
  • • Goals and plans only beginning• This investment pay dividends for years
