Russell (Concord, CA)- This review is from: GE GXRLQR Twist and Lock In-Line Refrigerator/Icemaker Replacement Filter (Tools &Home Improvement)Weve been using this filter for years now for our refrig. ice and water dispenser. No, it will not perform as a multi-stage water filtration system or the $70 one that goes in the bottom of your refer., but it is perfectlyadequate for use with quality city water.
  2. 2. Ice tastes much better than before.Water in the dispenser tends to last longer in the cooling loop inside the refer. With straight city water, it will quickly foul if water is not used regularly.Cartridge is a bit pricey, but again - it works fine. Was this review helpful to you? | Comment (1) 3 of 3 people found the following review helpful Good filter but withdesign flaw, July 23, 2012ByScott G. Linge (Minneapolis, MN)- This review is from: GE GXRLQR Twist and Lock In-Line Refrigerator/Icemaker Replacement Filter (Tools &Home Improvement)The water tastes great and according to the fact sheets filters out some particles and spores. However, there is a design flaw with thismodel, after a couple of filter replacements, the nubs at the top of the filter do not reach high enough to trigger the release in themanifold to release enough water and it dribbles out. This problem happened to me too, but can be fixed with a garden hose plasticwasher inserted at the top of the filter. Use a thin washer or a used washer for best results. We have it installed on the water line that supplies the drinking water faucet & refrigerator ice maker. We put it in the basement so its easy to access/change the filter.Update 12/09: We also use this filter in our primary home for the water line supplying the refrigerator. This house has a very different water issue: hard water. We previously used a Brita filter/pitcher for making coffee/tea because it stopped hard water deposits from forming in our pot. But that system was so slow & took space in the refrigerator so we switched to this filter. Unfortunately, it does not remove the hard water/lime. So the pot has to be "delimed" regularly. Also doesnt stop the buildup of lime in the refrigerator ice maker/water dispenser. Was not happy w/the way this was packaged for shipping. There was no filler around the filter boxes (cmon, who doesnt have a little newspaper or something around to use in packing???). So the filters rattled around the box & 2 (of 3) were out of the product packaging. Luckily, it doesnt appear that they were damaged but will consider another company to order these from next time.
