Although Austen was widely read in her lifetime,she </li></ul><ul><li>published her works anonymously. The most urgent preoccupation of her bright, young heroines is courtship and finally marriage. Austen herself never married. </li></ul>

Austen later compiled &quot;fair copies&quot; of 29 of these early works into three bound notebooks, now referred to as the Juvenilia , containing pieces originally written between 1787 and 1793.
