StayingSafe Online  Ransomware is a type of malicious software designed to block access to a computer system until a sum of money is paid.  Malware is software that is intended to damage or disable computers and computer systems.  Scareware malicious computer programs designed to trick a user into buying and downloading unnecessary and potentially dangerous software, such as fake antivirus protection.  Adware is software that automatically displays or downloads advertising material (often unwanted) when a user is online.  Rootkit is a stealthy type of software, typically malicious, designed to hide the existence of certain processes or programs from normal methods of detection and enable continued privileged access to a computer.  Phishing is the activity of defrauding an online account holder of financial information by posing as a legitimate company.  Spearphishing is an e-mail spoofing fraud attempt that targets a specific organization, seeking unauthorized access to confidential data.  Follow Microsoft @safer_online

Use the built-in Windows Backup that captures, not only your data, but it also creates an image of your entire machine, including the operating system (I bet you don’t remember where you put the recovery disk and license keys for the original machine), programs, documents, photos, videos, music files, your browser favourite AND your passwords! Go out and buy yourself an external backup drive like a Seagate Backup Plus or a Western Digital My Passport
