Description <ul><li>- A hawks wingspan is 10-27 inches long </li></ul><ul><li>- Hawks are divided into two groups called Buteous and Accipters </li></ul><ul><li>A female is bigger than a male hawk </li></ul><ul><li>A hawks color can be brown , blue-gray , or a solid black </li></ul><ul><li>A hawk can camouflage with its feathers </li></ul><ul><li>A hawk has a bone on the head that acts like a hat </li></ul>

Habitat <ul><li>A hawk can live in all of the continents except for in Antarctica </li></ul><ul><li>Some hawks live on icy mountains or in hot deserts </li></ul><ul><li>All hawks defend their territory no matter what </li></ul><ul><li>Accipters live in thick forests and Buteous live in fields or in meadows </li></ul><ul><li>All North America hawks migrate south in the winter </li></ul>

Habits <ul><li>A hawk eats mice , squirrel , rabbits , insects , songbirds , and crows </li></ul><ul><li>Some hawks eat fox, snake, lizards and other birds </li></ul><ul><li>A hawk will most likely kill with a dive and if not they will kill by stabbing or crushing prey with their claws </li></ul>
  5. 5. Reproduction <ul><li>Larger hawks lay fewer eggs about 2-3 while smaller hawks lay more about 1-6 </li></ul><ul><li>A hawk hatches in 25-35 days [ about one month ] </li></ul><ul><li>A baby hawk learns how to fly in 4 weeks </li></ul><ul><li>A hawk can live up to 10-30 years old </li></ul>
  6. 6. Enemies <ul><li>A baby hawks enemy are racoons , snakes , and other big birds because they eat the baby hawks </li></ul><ul><li>A hawk screeches and scratches its talons to make their enemies go away and if they don’t a hawk can even bite </li></ul>

Razzle Dazzle Facts <ul><li>As a hawk gets older its eye turns from gray to yellow </li></ul><ul><li>A hawk can see its prey from one mile away </li></ul><ul><li>A hawk can dive at the speed of 120 mph </li></ul><ul><li>A hawk can see eight times better than an average human </li></ul><ul><li>The way a hawk flies is like a kite </li></ul>

Laws <ul><li>In the year of 2007, the U.S government made it illegal to hunt , keep captive , or kill a hawk because its numbers were dropping </li></ul><ul><li>Now because of our effort the number of hawks have increased a lot </li></ul><ul><li>We should take care of them because if we don’t nobody will be able to see these wonderful birds in the future </li></ul>
