  4. 4. Choose a magazine that interests you and prepare a presentation. Answer the following questions to help you. <ul><li>a) What genre does your magazine belong to? Is it hobby or life style? Describe what features it has that makes it a part of that genre. </li></ul><ul><li>You need to give examples of the following to support this. </li></ul><ul><li>Cover </li></ul><ul><li>Feature articles </li></ul><ul><li>regular features </li></ul><ul><li>Page layout </li></ul><ul><li>Colours used </li></ul><ul><li>Types of advertisement </li></ul><ul><li>Specific target audience of that lifestyle or hobby magazine. </li></ul>

Technological developments . <ul><li>b) How has your chosen magazine developed in terms of technology used in production and distribution? </li></ul><ul><li>For example </li></ul><ul><li>Is digital imaging/digital cameras/airbrushing etc used in the production of the magazine. </li></ul><ul><li>Is the magazines website available to download via mobile phone technology? (distribution) </li></ul><ul><li>computerised presses, is the magazine printed via computerised as opposed traditional methods of printing? </li></ul>

How has the audience of lifestyle /hobby magazines changed over the years? </li></ul><ul><li>For this part of the presentation, you need to find out about the history of the magazine that you are studying, you can try & find this information on the magazines website, see if they have an online archive etc. </li></ul><ul><li>As trends in society change, the hobby/ lifestyle magazine will change with the audience as well </li></ul>

Prepare a presentation on a magazine. <ul><li>How has your chosen magazine changed in style or content over the years? </li></ul><ul><li>You need to find archive covers of the magazine. </li></ul><ul><li>Go to Wilkipedia the online encyclopaedia to find out about the history of your magazine. </li></ul>

Find information from Wilkipedia on the history of your magazine, underline & make notes from the relevant information. <ul><li>Edited by Geoff Barton, Kerrang! began life in June 1981 initially as a one off supplement in the Sounds newspaper devoted to the burgeoning New Wave of British Heavy Metal (or NWOBHM for short) and the rise of other hard rock acts such as AC/DC , who appeared on Kerrang! ’s first cover. </li></ul><ul><li>I underline the relevant information and put it in to my own words…. </li></ul><ul><li>-Kerrang magazine was conceived in 1981, it began as a one off supplement in sounds newspaper which was a newspaper specialising in British heavy metal and rock acts - Source: Wilkipedia </li></ul><ul><li>Any quotations taken directly from the text, I put in quotation marks, and make clear that this is a quotation. </li></ul><ul><li>According to wilkipedia the online encyclopaedia , ‘Kerrang! is a British music magazine. The magazine's title is onomatopoeic and derives from the noise putatively made by playing a power chord on an electric guitar.’ </li></ul>
