Medical procedures

 1. 1. BY: Cesar Romo
Medical Procedures
2. 2. Doppler Ultrasound
Used to measure the blood flow and blood pressure of a patient
Doppler ultrasound less invasive than other tests
Arteriography and venography are more invasive tests
3. 3. How it Works
Doppler ultrasound uses sound-wave echoes that reflect off tissue and organs to evaluate blood as it flows through blood vessels
Measures how fast blood flows by measuring its frequency
4. 4. Diagnosing
The Doppler ultrasound can help diagnose the following conditions
Blood cots
Venous insufficiency
Heart valve deficiency
Congenital heart disease
Obstructed artery
Peripheral artery disease
Aneurysms
Stenosis of an artery
5. 5. Holter Monitor
Also Known as a portable ECG (Electrocardiography)
Used to asses the pulse and heart of a patient during regular activities
Patients who have had a heart attack are asked to wear a Holter monitor
6. 6. How it Works
Electrode patches are placed around the patches chest
Electrodes are attached to a small recorder and must be worn a few hours or days
Each case is unique so the time the Holter monitor is worn is different
7. 7. Diagnosing for the Holter Monitor

Used to detect unusual heart rhythms
 8. 8. Used to diagnose
 9. 9. Atrial fibrillation
 10. 10. Multifiocal atrialtachycardia
 11. 11. Palpitations
 12. 12. Ventricular Tachycardia
 13. 13. Paroxysmal superventricular tachycardia

Thrombolytic Therapy
Drugs that are used to break or dissolve blood clots
Used for the treatment of strokes and heart attacks
Dissolve blood clots quickly which prevents muscle damage due to a lack of blood
14. 14. Types of Thrombolytic Therapy
There are various types of thrombolytic drugs
Lanoteplase
Reteplase
Staphylokinase
Streptokinase (SK)
Tenecteplase
Urokinase
Tissue plasminogen activator (t-PA)
15. 15. Exceptions to Thrombolytic Therapy
Thrombolytic Therapy will not be given if the patient has the had or has the following
A recent head injury
Bleeding problem
Bleeding ulcers
Pregnancy
Surgery
Taken blood thinning medications such as Coumadin
Trauma
Uncontrolled high blood pressure
