  • Hey there! there seems to be a mistake on the 6th slide. Austria is definitely not affected by world hunger, in fact, its the second richest country in the EU. I just thaught someone might want to know this before memorizing it XD

World Hunger

  1. 1. Every year over 15 Million children die of hunger.
  2. 2. “ Hunger” is defined as a condition in which people do not get enough food to provide the nutrients (carbohydrates, fats, proteins, vitamins, minerals and water) for active, healthy lives. Malnutrition is defined as a condition resulting from under nutrition or excessive consumption of one or more nutrients that can impair physical and mental health, and cause or by the consequence of infectious disease
  3. 3. <ul><li>The World Hunger Organization estimates that: </li></ul><ul><ul><li>*1/3 of the world is well- fed </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>*1/3 is under-fed </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>*1/3 is starving </li></ul></ul>
  4. 4. <ul><li>Three billion people in the world today are trying to survive just on U.S. $2 a day </li></ul><ul><li>In the U.S. hunger and race are related </li></ul><ul><ul><li>In 2005 46% African American were chronically hungry </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>40% Latino children chronically hungry </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Compared to 16% white children </li></ul></ul>
  5. 5. <ul><li>One of twelve people worldwide is malnourished. </li></ul><ul><li>160 million children under 5 years of age are starving </li></ul>
  6. 6. Afghanistan, Africa, Austria, Bahrain, Belize, Bhutan, Iraq, Jordan, Laos, Macao, Malta, Mauritius, Myanmar, Oman, Papua New Guinea, Somalia, Sudan, and Thailand.  
  7. 7. > For the price of one missile, a school full of hungry children could eat lunch every day for five years .

Factors contributing to the current Food crisis include: <ul><li>Rising fuel prices </li></ul><ul><li>Crops used for biofuels </li></ul><ul><li>Rising demand for animal feed </li></ul><ul><li>Political turmoil and conflict </li></ul><ul><li>Severe global weather patterns </li></ul><ul><li>Poor environmental practices </li></ul>
  9. 10. *Reduced intelligence, anxiety, psychiatric issues, cognitive impairment *Visual disturbances Eyes need vitamin A: orange fruits and vegetables, dark green vegetables. *Bleeding gums/decaying teeth Teeth need calcium: low-fat dairy, leafy green vegetables.
