Diploma in Foundation Studiesin Art and DesignHow is the course structured?In the Exploratory Stage (Autumn Term) you will beintroduced to a range of diverse art and design disciplinesincluding: Fine Art, Graphic communication, 3D Designand Fashion and Textiles. This stage is an opportunity foryou to explore materials, techniques and technology usingdynamic and inventive methods. You will explore newconcepts and approaches in the field of art and design. You will also have the opportunity to study drawing concepts and Historical and contextual studies and undertake workshops in: -print-making, -Photography -Digital Arts (3D computer modelling and digital illustration)

Diploma in Foundation Studiesin Art and DesignIn the Pathway stage (spring Term) you will choose to specialise within aparticular discipline of your choice, here you will further your skills in thisarea and develop further understanding of materials, techniques, concepts,and contexts linked to this area.You can specialise in one of four core areas:Fine art (including painting, sculpture, mixed media and printmaking)Graphic Communication (including Web Design and Multimedia Design)Three-dimensional design (including, Spatial design, Contemporary Crafts andJewellery)Fashion and Textiles (including Mens and Womens wear)And one of two additional areas:Digital Design (3D computer modelling and Digital illustration)Photography

Diploma in Foundation Studiesin Art and DesignIn the Confirmatory Stage the course culminates with you undertaking aFinal Major Project which is written by yourself and explores a theme of yourchoice within you chosen discipline. Your final work for this project isexhibited in the End of Year Exhibition, which takes place in June and is opento the public. Whilst you will still have considerable input from specialiststaff you will predominantly lead the development and realisation of thefinal major project.
