ROOTS OF THE WEST’S DEMISE For nearly a half a century the West has been in decline.Europe, the U.S. and Canada have lost much of theprominence in the world. The sun of their influence iswaning and close to setting. But what has caused thisdecline? What are the roots of the West’s decline? Economically, the U.S. and many countries in Europeare close to bankruptcy. Massive overspending has led anumber of Western nations to imperil the Euro and U.S.dollar. Both currencies may eventually implode and causefinancial disaster. Educationally, secularization has taken the West downa pathway towards politically correct ideals that do not fosterunbiased inquiry. Certain ideals are repeatedly promulgatedat the expense of basic foundational study. Instead ofproducing students with common basic knowledge the majorfocus is social engineering which attempts to create studentswith completely secular worldviews. Politically, progressives have implemented theirsocialistic agenda believing true change is only possible inthat direction. As more and more government programs areinitiated and expanded the populace looks to the governmentfor help where once private institutions and individualsreigned. Of course, economically these governmentprograms are unsustainable. Philosophically, atheists have attempted and prettymuch succeeded in keeping religious views out of the publicsector. Instead of Christian institutions, funded by privatedonations, meeting the needs of people and dealing with real
heart changes, needs are met by the public sector on a neverending basis. Where does that leave those of us who see a huge needto change the direction of the West’s decline? Little else willchange until hearts change. We can vote for those we believewill fight against secularization, and certainly that’s good, but that won’t change hearts. Only turning to faith in JesusChrist as Savior and Lord will transform belief systems.Only evangelism and discipleship of new believers withbiblical precepts will transform the West.
