  3. 3. Introduction <ul><li>“ This week-long event is aimed at helping medical undergraduates develop a strong clinical, academic and research portfolio that will help them to pursue a career in a competitive surgical or medical speciality on completion of medical school” </li></ul>

Aims <ul><li>Provide insight and enhance understanding of the most competitive surgical and medical specialities </li></ul><ul><li>Endow with a taster of basic clinical and surgical skills in the speciality </li></ul><ul><li>Provide guidance on developing a strong portfolio </li></ul><ul><li>Provide opportunities to interact with consultants and registrars (arrange clinical placements and undertake projects) </li></ul><ul><li>Highlight areas that may be of future interest in the specialty </li></ul><ul><li>Empower the student with guidance on how to develop their chosen career </li></ul>

  7. 7. Day 1 <ul><li>“ Consultants and Specialists from various specialities will provide an overview (‘taster’) of different specialities. This will be particularly beneficial for students who are yet to decide on a particular speciality” </li></ul>
  8. 8. Days 2 and 3 <ul><li>“ In addition to essential theoretical information, there will be sessions on basic surgical and suturing skills, orthopaedic skills, basic life support, advanced life support, advanced trauma life support and laparoscopic skills” </li></ul>

Day 4 <ul><li>“ Will provide the student with pertinent information on various academic/research aspects such as intercalating and carrying out clinical and basic science research (leading to a higher degree). This day will also cover aspects related to undertaking clinical audits, oral and poster presentations, and publications” </li></ul>
  11. 11. Day 5 <ul><li>“ Necessary information will be given on developing and nurturing a portfolio, recent advances and future of their chosen speciality, and tips on entering a specialist training programme” </li></ul>
