It’s also experiencing growing pains as companies try to find the sweet spot between their products and the services that support them. This requires thinking beyond the devices themselves, and designing experiences that engage people in managing their own health.

  2. 2. As the fitness and health device market continues to explode, the age of understanding and managing our own health is here. With so many options for consumers, device makers must pair their products with services that: •  Derive meaning from data •  Connect patients with doctors, nurses and caregivers •  Empower people to take better care of themselves
  3. 3. Keep it simple The health and wellness landscape is already complex. Consumers are constantly bombarded with information. When designing an app for your device, simplicity is key. Know the core features your app must have, and design them to be easy and intuitive to use.
  4. 4. Lower the barriers to entry Ditch Bluetooth and go cellular. Bluetooth is often clunky and difficult to set up. Cellular networks seamlessly move information into cloud services and then to the user.   7. 7. Change behaviors Don’t just measure. Help people achieve and maintain goals with smarter services. Avoid a plateau by offering different tiers of incentives to keep people engaged.
  8. 8. Surprise and delight Let’s be honest: health maintenance can be a chore. Find ways to make it interesting, fun, challenging, even competitive. The more you expose new features or rewards over time, the more engaged your customers will be.
