The Underground Railroad was a network of people who helped escaped slaves travel from the southern United States to the northern states and Canada for freedom, using their homes as safe houses along the route. As more slaves escaped north, it angered southern slave owners and led to laws capturing escaped slaves, so the Underground Railroad expanded routes to Canada. The actions of the Underground Railroad may have increased tensions between north and south and contributed to the start of the Civil War.

2. Facts The Underground Railroad was used for smuggling slaves from the south to the North so escapee’s can have a better life. The Under Ground railroad is not a railroad it is a group of people using their homes as a place for escaped slaves to use for a short period of time until they were able to move at night

3. Cause on the South People of the south grew angry that their slaves were escaping and hiding in the North, this caused The Fugitive Slave act of 1793 to be enforced all through out the united states. Seeing this as a problem people involved with the under ground railroad extended the escape route to Canada. Those who were captured were sent back to their “owner’s” and were usually brutally beaten, and/or possibly killed.
