Editor's Notes

  1. I. Beginning•  Hook/attention grabber  - Who wouldn't love a new bike?•  The Big Idea  - My idea involves getting colleges and universities to start commuter bike programs for students. This program would allow for volunteering students to receive a voucher to a local bike shop for a new bike up to a certain price.•  What’s in it for your audience? - The audience would be given a chance to get a new or used bike they could use for transportation locally and also be getting a fair amount of exercise. Students would be cutting down on emissions in the area and free up busy streets around campus all while getting a good work out.•  Why should your audience listen to you? - College students may not be able to afford a new bike or already have a bike but may be broken or too small. Having a bike on campus makes traveling from class, dorms, stores, etc.. much easier and affordable on a college budget. This idea would only be saving the students money and helping out their bodies physically.•  Call to Adventure - Most people enjoy riding bikes and going on adventures as a kid. I think that all of these people would still like to be able to do this as a college student but may not have the bike to be able to do so. If the university were to supply students with bikes these students could once again relive their childhood adventures by cruising around on their bike with friends during their spare time or even take a trip somewhere and go mountain biking.II. Middle•  Preview the three main points that will support your big idea - Cut on fuel cost, improve student health, reduce traffic around campus•  Supporting Point One - By reducing the amount you are driving your car you are reducing the amount of money you are spending at the pump. Most students are living on a budget already and can use every extra dollar they can get.•  Supporting Point Two - Improving students health physically and mentally by adding a new workout and daily routine to their lives. With every workout routine you are relieving the body of stress and helping to clear your mind. This in turn is only going to improve students attitudes and help improve their health physically.•  Supporting Point Three - By increasing the amount of bike commuter students on campus their would definitely be a cut back on motor vehicle traffic on busy streets surrounding the campus. This would make busy areas a little bit safer for everyone including motor vehicle drivers.•  Call to Action - Universities and campuses around the nation need to realize this is not only benefitting your students. With the addition to the bike voucher program would come a great tax write off for the university as well. Not only helping the students out but helping the university save some money in the long run as well.III. End•  Summarize the main points - To help cut on out of pockets fuel cost expenses to students, reduce traffic on busy streets around campus, and to improve student health physically and mentally.•  Restate big idea - Schools need to imply a commuter bike voucher program to all students.•  Clincher/new bliss - Everyone wins with this idea by saving money all around and improving students lives.
