2. QUESTION 1
From all of my responses everyone said that the trailer was
effective. The next questions go into a bit more detail about the all
my products. All results are from people in my target audience so
I could gain accurate results to evaluate.
3. The first response says that the story line is made
clear to the audience and the use of sound is
effective. The nursery rhymes is also another factor
which has helped to make the trailer effective. The
nursery rhymes had a good effect on everyone that
watched and done a survey so I think this is a good
contributing factor that helps make the product more
successful.
Most preferred how effective the antagonist was in
the trailer and how well she has been portrayed
throughout. As she looks innocent she is also the
main ‘slasher’ which takes the audience by surprise.
The audience found this as being more mysterious
and intimidating too.
The setting was also effective in the trailer my
audience found that the setting in the woods makes
it more effective as the rural area suggests there is
nowhere to run of hide which makes it more realistic
for the audience. The axe was also another factor
that helped make it be recognised as a typical
‘slasher’ based horror movie too.
Others said the way black and white was used in the
trailer also helped make it have a stronger effect too.
The black and white linked in with the old nursery
rhymes helps it have a eary, sinister feel to it which
made the trailer effective to the audience.
4. Areas I should improve on from this feedback
Throughout the trailer different shots have been used. But
a common response was that a larger variety of shots
should be used to make this more dynamic as a product.
An example of different shots I could use was a low angle
on the antagonist to represent her dominance in the
movie which is a conventional shot in the horror movie
genre to make the main antagonist appear as more
intimidating to the audience. This can also make the
trailer more realistic for the audience too by adding more
shots such as that.
Another thing that could be changed to make the product
more effective is the font in the captions. Some said if the
font was more of a bold font it would make the product
look more effective. A common font used in trailers is just
a bold sans serif font that’s easy to read.
Another issue was that the length of the trailer wasn’t
long enough for the people that viewed it. But this can be
improved by adding more shots. Some also said that this
would be even more effective if more shots with the
antagonist was added because she was really effective
too. I think the main area I need to improve on is adding
more shots and adding more with the antagonist with the
other characters to show a bit more encounters. Showing
another encounter in the trailer could also help make it
more real for the audience which is important for the
horror genre to have a better effect on them.
5. All but one person said the combination was effective. Most
people said that they help show a link between each other and
promote the movie. This has been done by showing the setting
for example as being in the woods which links in with the title
of the movie to help it be more recognisable to the audience.
Also the way that the antagonist has been presented in each
has proved to be successful as people could see the link. The
antagonist is a distinctive looking character too with the long
hair and the white dress so I think this is also something that
has helped ‘The woods’ stand out.
An improvement I could make to make the combination
between them stronger is having maybe a caption or a slogan
that goes along with the title. This has been used for the
‘Sinister’ movie they put ‘when you see him’ as the catch line
which can be recognised in all merchandise and advertising
used for sinister. Also to improve I could possibly make the
don’t for the title and captions in the trailer the same too to
help create a stronger brand identity between the products.
6. I gained some really useful feedback from this question. I could
specify exactly what was strong and week about the trailer which
helps a lot. Many said the strength is the use of sound in the trailer.
The use of the nursery rhymes with the heart beat to resemble
someone being scared helps make the trailer more effective for the
audience and more realistic too. Another strength that was
significant was how well the antagonist is portrayed in the trailer.
Also the way the axe has become a significant part of making the
trailer a slasher based movie has helped as I wanted to create a
slasher based horror movie trailer and make it clear so too.
Another strength was the combination of the nursery rhymes, the
black and white and the antagonist together. It was a good link to
show that she was the girl who went missing from the newspaper
article shown in the trailer. But it also makes it mysterious which
helps create more suspense which has been shown in the answers
from the question and previous questions. Another strength
suggested is the mis-en-scene used. The woods proved to be a
successful setting for the trailer.
Unfortunately there was a couple of things that will need to be
improved on. The simple weakness to this was that the trailer
could have done with being a bit longer. And someone said that not
enough shots have been used in the trailer . So to make it stronger
more shots would need to be used throughout the trailer to take
the audience by surprise. Someone also said that the font used on
the caption isn't very good . So the font used will definitely have to
be another part that needs to be improved.
Over all the product is effective. And it does have some really god
parts to it. But unfortunately it could do with some change such as
the length, change on fonts and some different angled shots to
improve the product.
