Creative Planet, for one,had visions of a vertically integratedweb community of media professionalsthat mimicked the traditional studiosystem — but without all the physicalbaggage. InternetStudios sought noth-ing less than to re-invent the financing,sales and distribution ecosystem with adigital marketplace for film and TVrights. Both companies flamed out. Some 12 years later and web technol-ogy is only now starting to catch up withsuch disruptive thinking. Some of thosesame ideas have gained currency again,albeit couched in more modest lan-guage and with rather more concreteambitions that come tied to identifiableindustry needs.
