As you read on you will discover simple and proven methods showing you how to de stress at work. The symptoms of stress include; feeling that you can't cope, difficulty concentrating, lack of motivation, depressive feelings, irritability and overwhelm. If you are severely stressed you might even experience physical symptoms such as; diarrhoea or constipation, indigestion, headaches and other body aches and pains! One of the major causes of stress at work is having to much to do. We like to think we can multi-task but having all those different 'things to do' spinning around in our head saps our energy and focus! Making a simple list and then prioritising works wonders. Eat That Frog 1. Write down a list of 'things to do.' 2. Now prioritise them in order of importance. 3. What is your top priority task that needs to get done today? That is your Frog. 4. Now list your other tasks in order of importance A, B, C. Go ahead and start by eating that frog! Musical Work Music has magical qualities. With the right music you can be transported instantly into a different state of mind. Listening to relaxing classical music from greats such as Mozart or Beethoven is an effective way of relieving stress at work. You could also try listening to Ambient soundtracks in the background. Raindrop sounds, bird sounds and river and waterfall sounds are also well known for their soothing qualities... The Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) The Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) is becoming more popular for dealing with stress at work and with good reason. The more stressed out we are, the more our breathing tends to be shallow. Therefore one of the simplest ways to become more relaxed is to breath more deeply which increases the flow of fresh oxygen entering our system. Deep Breathe 1. Simply notice your breathing. 2. Now as you breath in take more in. Breath deeper. 3. Pause for a moment before exhaling slowly. 4. Do this conscious breathing for a few minutes and notice how much better you feel. Deep Relaxation Switch One of the other good ways to de-stress at work is to learn to relax more. But this is easier said than done when your in the thick of it! The good news is that there is a way of programming your subconscious mind to switch or trigger a feeling of deep relaxation whenever you need it most. The key to the following technique is to do it when you are away from work, at home feeling relaxed, safe and warm. 1. Become even more relaxed. Close your eyes and allow yourself to deepen into trance... 2. And notice the space between and behind your eyes. Hold your attention there for a few moments as you relax even more now... 3. Recall an experience where you felt deeply calm and relaxed. Maybe you were on holiday enjoying the warm sunshine and gentle breeze while sitting in a warm pool... Now squeeze your finger and thumb together to capture that moment. This creates an association in your mind so that in the future whenever you squeeze that finger and thumb together you will begin to feel that warm relaxed feeling again. 6. Go through the steps a few times to create a good strong association. 7. Now you can think about going to work in the morning... and immediately squeeze your finger and thumb together to trigger the relaxation response. Do this a few times to re-program your associations with work. TOP TIP: You can of course trigger relaxation any time when you are actually in the work place by 'pressing your Relaxation Switch.' 5 Minutes Is All You Need! The modern world is full of toxins and pollution so it's no wonder the body's immune system gets overwhelmed sometimes. Managing stress at work is important because to much stress affects the immune system in detrimental ways. The natural healing and stress reducing practices in 'energy medicine' are a simple and effective way to keep healthy. The Stress Fader 1. Lightly place your finger tips on your "O' My God!" Points (the Neurovasculars), one inch above the eyebrows. You can also put your elbows on a table and 'hold your head in your hands.' 2. Place your thumbs on your temples next to your eyes. 3. Breath and notice the blood (pulsing) returning to your forebrain, enabling you to think more calmly and clearly. This can usually be done in less than five minutes. *You can of course hold other people's Neurovasculars to help them de-stress. De-stressing With The Crown Pull Breathing deeply in through the nose and out through the mouth follow these steps: 1. Start with you thumbs on your temples, fingertips resting at the middle of your forehead. 2. Apply pressure and slowly pull your fingers apart, stretching the skin. Breathe deeply, in through your nose and out through your mouth Repeat as feels good. 3. Place your fingertips at your hairline and repeat the stretch. 4. Repeat this pattern starting at the top, centre, and back of your head. Continue until you reach the base of your neck. 5. Move down to your shoulders and push your fingers in and hold.
