More por vs para

  1. 1. More Uses of Por and Para
  2. 2. Use POR to indicate the reason or motive behind an action.  No le gusta ese restaurante por los camareros descorteses. He doesn’t like that restaurant because of the impolite waiters.  Compré la revista por los artículos. I bought the magazine for (because of) the articles.
  3. 3. When using a verb as a reason, PORQUE is required.  No fui a la fiesta porque estuve enfermo. I didn’t go to the party because I was sick.  Juan no estuvo en clase hoy porque se emborrachó anoche. Juan wasn’t in class today because he got drunk last night.
  4. 4. When the reason for doing something involves a person, use PARA.  Trajó flores para su esposa. He brought flowers for his wife.  ¿Para quién es el regalo? Who is the gift for?
