This couple saved up for decades to make their retirement dream a reality. Max Fletcher and Lynnie Bruce now live on a 40-foot sailboat, sailing to countries like Germany, Iceland and India.
Here's how they did it: "We lived below our means, paid off credit card debt. Only (got into) debt for mortgages," said Fletcher. "This has been a long-term goal -- to make enough to do this kind of thing."
They socked anywhere between 5% and 21% of their salaries in their employer-sponsored 401(k)s and fully funded their IRAs. Each year, they put away even more into their savings accounts. They also changed the way they invested, switching to companies with dividend growth like Procter & Gamble and Johnson & Johnson.
Now they're living the dream. As they put it, "Life is short."
