2. Unmet need: BBC fans desire something to do
related to the shows they watch in the long off-
seasons.

3. Description of group
Nearly everyone that likes what I’m considering
BBC Fiction shows (Doctor Who and Sherlock
are among the most popular) is extremely loyal
to the show(s), and enjoys sharing information
among the group.

6. Personal Observations
• Most of the fans are very loyal to the shows.
• Extreme users almost have an expectation that
the people they talk to have the same knowledge
about the shows as they do
• Extreme users will try to get others to watch the
shows
• Fans are heavily invested in getting involved in
the shows somehow (showing support for
characters, trying to figure out plot devices,
writing fiction, drawing, etc.).

8. Interview Excerpts
• “The number one thing I dislike about BBC
Fiction is all of the time I spend PINING for all
of these characters that I see for three weeks
out of the year and then spend the rest of the
time pining.” – Aleey
• “In between the seasons there’s nothing to
do, nothing to watch. And when there is, is
little blurbs you can get in the UK and not in
America” - Cyndi

9. Three Draft Idea
Forum app – communication between
actors/crew/characters and fans via blogs, separated by show
and whether the blog is cast/crew or characters (see next
slide)
Game app – fans can earn points by posting in the forum,
asking questions on the cast/crew blog, asking questions to
Twitter accounts, and even navigating the site to unlock extra
content on pages.
Fan connectivity – a place to post fan art, fiction, etc.
specifically for BBC shows, and receive feedback from others

10. Three Draft Idea
• Blog:
– Based off blog from Sherlock
(http://www.johnwatsonblog.co.uk/), could be for
characters
• Photo/Video Capability:
– Photos of cast, crew. Videos of behind the scenes, as well
as extras (shorts). Links to full videos on iTunes
• Voice Interaction:
– Virtual tours of sets (state room/place)
• Location Awareness
– Two-fold: Merchandise and “Game” – where characters
would be on a map if they were real

12. Ideation Session
• The desire is to have something to do related
to the shows on BBC while between seasons.
• The app would have multiple functions,
mostly to keep the shows interesting – by
giving novel information - during the off-
season. Interaction would happen
with/between fans via blog Q&A, as well as
fan forums.
• The app is for BBC fans of all ages
