Is SEO More Difficult Since The
        Google Penguin Update?

If you are in the SEO industry or just passively interested, you would be quite
familiar with the Google Penguin update that happened this April just gone. After
the update the Internet was running rife with articles on what happened, how it
happened, and what was the future of SEO to hold. It was near on pandemonium,
as everyone weighed in with their opinion and the pessimists were out in force.

The Penguin update we saw to be a wonderful thing in the most part. There was
the odd site that got penalised for absolutely no good reason whatsoever (and we
really sympathise with those website owners whom were hit), however thankfully
such instances were minimal.

Many SEO companies (and other parallel industries) were dictating it as the end of
SEO, and it was all just too hard, as Google kept changing the rules to suit
themselves.

OK, Google can and does change the rules to suit themselves, although with the
Penguin update there was nothing that came that Google had not been advising us
for years.

Quite simply, they wanted quality content, no on site spam, and a natural link
profile. This has been the name of the game since day one.

So how has SEO changed since the update? Well in our case it has not changed.
We quite often talk about the way Oracle Digital conduct our SEO methodologies,
which focuses on creating quality content and getting it shared on quality sites, with
an emphasis towards social signals. Quality links come naturally, traffic increases,
time spent on site increases, and the result is an increase in organic search
ranking results.

So really what I'm trying to say is that SEO is even more simple since the Penguin
update, as it eliminates all the junk SEO techniques that people were doing. Junk
equals fast, although it does not offer sustainable results.

Often when we have a new client come on board they will closely watch their
organic search results (as opposed to their increase in leads or sales, tsk tsk), and
become quite concerned that after 5 or 6 weeks their keywords are not ranking on
page one of Google. In any ethical and holistic SEO campaign that is not normally
going to happen, unless competition levels are very low in your niche or industry.

Quality SEO is like the foundations of a good home, they run deep and are stable,
yet you can't see them. Once you further build out upon them, you begin to see the
results, which when done properly are sustainable and long lasting.

There are no secrets to SEO, it's about knowing what Google wants, and giving it
to them. I'm sure you could say the same about your own industry, but as you
know, to realise there are no secrets, takes many years work and dedication to sort
the what from the chaff.

Quality content, share it in the right places, and engage your audience. Give
Google that and you will be rewarded.
